HOW TO ASSEMBLE PARK CLEAN-UP KITS FOR KIDS:
STEP ONE:
Schedule a date and time to assemble your kits.
Turn your kit assembly event into a kit-making PARTY by inviting friends to join you!
Use an online platform, like Evite.com, to send invitations, or simply send an email or text message. Other options include asking someone in person, calling them, or sending paper invitations through the mail.
STEP TWO:
Gather your materials. To assemble 24 kits (enough for a preschool classroom or two), you’ll need the following supplies.
*Shop local, if you can.
- 12x18 Cellophane bags (60 count ~ $8)
- Clipboards (24 ~ $28)
- Crayons (24 ~ $30)
- Small non-latex gloves (100 ~ $10)
- Garbage bags (50 ~ $10)
- 24 copies of the Litter Scavenger Hunt printable
- 24 copies of April’s coloring page
If you’re planning to invite your friends to a kit-making party, use an online sign-up form, like SignUpGenius.com, to help organize who’s bringing what. (This will also help offset the cost of supplies, so you’re not buying them all on your own.)

STEP THREE:
Assemble your Park Clean-Up Kits for kids.
If you’ve invited friends to join you, have food and drinks available; play music in the background; welcome people as they arrive; and introduce people who don’t know each other.
1. Organize your supplies by laying them out on a table in the order you’ll need them for assembly:
- Printed copies of the Litter Scavenger Hunt and coloring page
- Clipboards
- Cellophane bags
- Boxes of crayons
- Latex-free gloves
- Garbage bags
- Twist ties (or yarn, if you want to get fancy!)
2. Assemble your bags:
- Place a copy of the Litter Scavenger Hunt on top of a coloring page, and secure them in a clipboard.
- Put the clipboard inside a cellophane bag.
- Add a box of crayons, (4) latex-free gloves, and (2) garbage bags.
- Use a twist tie (or yarn) to seal the bag.
AFTER ASSEMBLING YOUR KITS:
Give them to friends and neighbors, or donate them to a local preschool or food pantry serving families in your community.
